Accessibility Statement

Our commitment to an accessible experience for every guest.

Effective Date: May 18, 2026 · Last Updated: May 18, 2026

Hospitality, for us, means making everyone feel welcome at the table. Capriciano Osteria is committed to providing access to our restaurant, our menu, and our website to guests of all abilities. This Accessibility Statement describes the steps we take, the standards we work toward, and how to reach us when something is not working — so that we can address it quickly and improve over time.

1. Our Commitment

We work in good faith to comply with Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act, 42 U.S.C. §12181 et seq., the California Disabled Persons Act, Cal. Civ. Code §54 et seq., and the Unruh Civil Rights Act, Cal. Civ. Code §51, and to make our digital and physical environments substantially accessible to guests with disabilities. We do not claim that every feature of our website or every aspect of our physical space is fully accessible to every assistive technology or every disability; accessibility is a process of continuous improvement, and we take that process seriously.

2. Digital Accessibility — Standard

We work toward conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). WCAG 2.1 AA describes how to make web content more accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities, including visual, auditory, cognitive, language, learning, and motor disabilities. We use a combination of automated testing, periodic manual review, and feedback from guests to identify and remediate barriers.

Our website includes an accessibility‑assistance widget (Readabler) that lets you adjust text size, contrast, spacing, and other display settings. The widget is available from the accessibility icon visible at the lower‑left or upper‑right of every page.

3. Effective Alternative Access

If any feature of our website is not accessible to you with your assistive technology, please contact us using the methods in Section 8 and we will provide the same information or service through an alternative channel. For example:

  • If our online reservation form or the OpenTable widget is not usable with your assistive technology, please call (707) 800‑7904 and we will book a reservation for you.
  • If a menu PDF or photograph is not readable, please email hi@capriciano.com and we will send a plain‑text version or describe the dishes by telephone.
  • If a gift card cannot be purchased online with your assistive technology, please call us and we will process the purchase by telephone.

4. Physical Accessibility

Our 505 Mendocino Avenue location offers:

  • Step‑free access from the public sidewalk to the main entrance and through the main dining room.
  • Step‑free access to the Al Fresco Terrace (seasonal) and to our restrooms.
  • Accessible restrooms designed to meet 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design.
  • Movable seating in the main dining room so that we can accommodate wheelchairs, mobility aids, walkers, and other equipment with prior notice.

If you have specific seating needs — an accessible table, a quieter section, additional space for a walker, or proximity to the entrance — please tell us when you book and we will do our best to arrange them. We are not currently aware of building features that would prevent a guest using a standard wheelchair from accessing our dining areas, the Al Fresco Terrace, or our restrooms. If you have specific access needs, please contact us in advance and we will confirm what we can accommodate.

5. Communication and Sensory Accommodations

  • Large‑print menus are available on request — please ask the host on arrival, or notify us at booking and we will have one ready.
  • Server reading and description. Our servers are happy to read the menu aloud, describe dishes, and answer questions for guests with low vision or print disabilities.
  • Written communication. For guests who are Deaf or hard of hearing, our team can take orders and answer questions in writing on a notepad or on a tablet. Please ask the host on arrival.
  • Plain‑language menu summaries are available on request for guests who benefit from a simpler description of dishes or wine.
  • Quiet seating. We will do our best to accommodate requests for a quieter table when seating allows.

6. Service Animals and Emotional Support Animals

Service animals individually trained to do work or perform tasks for a person with a disability are welcome throughout the restaurant in accordance with Title III of the ADA, 28 C.F.R. §36.302(c), and Cal. Civ. Code §54.1. Our staff is permitted to ask only the two questions allowed by federal regulation: (1) is the animal required because of a disability, and (2) what work or task the animal has been trained to perform.

Emotional support animals, comfort animals, and therapy animals do not qualify as service animals under federal law or under Cal. Civ. Code §54.1, and are not legally entitled to access to the dining room. Emotional support animals are not service animals under federal or California law and are not currently permitted in the restaurant. Only trained service animals as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act and Cal. Civ. Code §54.1 are welcomed.

7. Third‑Party Content

Parts of our website include content provided by third parties — including the OpenTable reservation widget, embedded maps, and embedded social‑media content. We do not control the accessibility of those third‑party services. We have selected vendors who publish accessibility commitments and ask them to maintain conformance with WCAG 2.1 AA, but we cannot guarantee that every third‑party feature is fully accessible. If a third‑party widget is creating a barrier, please contact us using Section 8 and we will provide an alternative way to complete the task.

8. Feedback and Requests for Accommodation

If you encounter a barrier to access or want to request an accommodation, please contact our accessibility coordinator:

When contacting us, please tell us (a) the barrier you encountered, (b) the page, feature, or area of the restaurant involved, and (c) the assistive technology or accommodation you would like us to provide. We will acknowledge your message within two (2) business days and respond substantively within five (5) business days, or sooner where reasonably possible. For accommodation requests tied to an upcoming reservation, please contact us at least forty‑eight (48) hours in advance whenever possible so that we can prepare.

9. Ongoing Review

We commit to reviewing this statement and our accessibility practices at least once per calendar year, and after any major change to our website. Findings from accessibility audits and from guest feedback are prioritized and remediated on a continuous basis.

10. Limitations and Honest Disclosure

Despite our best efforts, some content on our website may not yet be fully accessible. Known limitations include (without limitation): third‑party embedded content over which we do not have full control; older PDFs that have not yet been remediated; and content posted before our most recent accessibility audit. We are actively working to address these limitations. If you encounter a specific issue, please tell us so we can prioritize it.

11. Changes to This Statement

We may revise this Accessibility Statement from time to time. The revised version will be posted at this URL with an updated “Effective Date.”
